A new opportunity for an experienced CNC machinist to join an innovative, expanding business based in Farnborough, Hampshire.
This role is ideal for candidates who have experience with 3-axis CNC vertical milling machines, working to high tolerances and safety standards. It will involve the translation of drawings and CAD models into machine code, so you’ll need to be familiar with the use of CAD and CAM to programme a range of machines and machine languages.
You’ll need to be familiar with the selection of tooling feed rates and tool paths for materials including steels, aluminium, titanium, and plastics.
Job functions include:
- Machining parts from drawings as required using 3-axis VMCs
- Maintaining a high standard of quality and organise your own work vs capacity requirement to ensure efficient utilisation of multiple machines
- Being able to assess when changes or repairs need to be made to fixtures and tools
- Maintaining and monitoring machines and verifying adequate materials and supplies are available
- Saving programs and set up sheets, maintaining accurate records using manufacturing control system
- Considering health and safety in day-to-day activity and work with minimum supervision
- Completing quality system reports in a timely manner.
We’re looking for:
- An experienced CNC machinist with a Milling and programming background who has worked to a high level of accuracy for prototyping and small batch manufacture
- Fanuc, Haas and Heidenhain, Hurco controls would be desirable
- Some knowledge of Colchester, Haas, Hurco, and DMG Machines would be ideal, or a willingness to learn these
- Experience working with recognised Quality Systems
- Experience of CAD/CAM programmes
- An aerospace, automotive or similar background would be ideal but not essential
- Experience of optical tool setting systems.
Skills and aptitude needed:
- Self-starter who is motivated with excellent attention to detail
- Comfortable working to fine tolerances
- Reading and accurately interpreting engineering drawings and using them to set up machines and check parts
- Highly experienced in machining a wide range of materials particularly titanium and aluminium
- All round knowledge of machining strategies and tooling solutions
- Flexible approach to work and be able to work calmly under pressure.
Hours are 8am to 5pm and a generous yearly bonus scheme is in place.
